General Criteria for Foreigners Working in Taiwan
Currently, foreigners engaging in specialized or technical work must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Obtain certification or professional qualifications according to the “Examination Act for Professional and Technical Personnel” (e.g., doctors, lawyers).
- Hold a master’s degree or higher from a relevant department of a domestic or foreign university or hold a bachelor’s degree from a relevant department with more than 2 years of related work experience.
- Have worked for a multinational enterprise for more than 1 year and have been assigned to work in Taiwan.
- Have more than 5 years of work experience without formal education credentials, with notable achievements or exceptional performance.
The average monthly salary for employed foreigners must reach at least NT$47,971, unless otherwise specified. The maximum duration for each employment permit application for foreign professionals is 3 years. Before the expiration of the employment period, an extension can be applied for, with no limit on the number of extensions. For those who qualify as specific foreign professionals, the maximum duration for each employment permit is 5 years.

Application Process for Work Permit
Once employment is confirmed, the employer is responsible for applying for the work permit. The entire process can be completed online.
