About the job
Google's custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Responsibilities
• Lead the conception and implementation of custom test systems (interface cards, fixtures, racks, and more) to support design validation and manufacturing tests across various product lines.
• Partner with test engineering teams to productize test vehicles to validate the latest technologies and other new technologies for New Product Introduction (NPI) products.
• Partner with Technical Program Managers (TPM) to manage procurement, budget, schedule, risk management for custom test systems development projects and alignment with NPI program schedules, including Request for Proposal (RFP) process and selection of Joint Design Manufacturer (JDM) partner and technology suppliers.
• Drive technical discussions and reviews, ensure manufacturability, cost optimization, guide technical tradeoff analysis and decision-making processes, and act as technical liaison between Google technical team and JDM partners.
• Participate in design validation, system integration activities, product bring up, and validation during prototype builds.

Google’s mission is to organize the world‘s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Since our founding in 1998, Google has grown by leaps and bounds. From offering search in a single language we now offer dozens of products and services—including various forms of advertising and web applications for all kinds of tasks—in scores of languages. And starting from two computer science students in a university dorm room, we now have thousands of employees and offices around the world. A lot has changed since the first Google search engine appeared. But some things haven’t changed: our dedication to our users and our belief in the possibilities of the Internet itself.
